Thanks to Graham Pagen for sending us these news items:

On the 18th of June a team of 5 kite surfers will leave the white sandy beaches of Tarifa in the south of Spain to kite surf across the Straights of Gibraltar and hopefully land in Morocco in the North of Africa in aid to raise money for Cancer charities.
Being one of the busiest shipping lanes in the world the danger factor of this crossing lies not in the distance of just 30kmtrs (approx), but in the non stop traffic of ships that even if they wanted to stop, couldn't and then there is the strong currents, the sharks, the whales and
Team rider Graham Pagden came up with the idea after the death of his sister Ushi (38) to cancer 2 years ago, and the event will be held in order to raise money for Cancer Charities with 100% of moneys raised being donated to either the CUDECA Cancer Society here on the Costa del Sol, AECC (Association Espanola Contra Cancer) or The Macmillan Cancer Society, which is based in the UK.
The team will consist of five riders who are once again Graham Pagden, who is originally from Australia and has lived in Spain almost all his life, Antonio Rodriguez who runs Karma Surf Shop, Rob van den Top from Manilva, Frank Salazar owner of Freedom Kite School which is based on Heaven Beach in Estepona and the last but not least Jose Delgado from Madrid, who last year swam across the Straights.
You can come and watch them take of from the beach at the Arte Vida Hotel in Tarifa on the 18th of June or check out their website which is www.crossing4cancer.com or you can get in contact with Graham Pagden on crossing4cancer AT hotmail.co.uk.
